If riding along Rt. 7 in Vermont and you find yourself in the Brandon area, be sure to take a diversion and head a little east to Foley Brothers Brewing. Established in 2012, Patrick and Daniel Foley operate a quaint, if not quite rustic, tasting room … the informal setting is an awesome locale to sample and purchase their beers.
I decided to sample some of Foleys’ finest; here is what I found:
Big Bang IPA (5.5% ABV) Pours with a golden wheat color and a sparkling head. Outstanding hoppy aromas and flavors.
Appearance: 4.4 | Aroma: 4.6 | Feel: 4.4 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.5
Double Maple Brown (8.2% ABV) Nice dark pour … I had a little trouble picking out the maple flavors, and instead tasted coffee and chocolate. Surprisingly good.
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 4.2 | Feel: 4.3 | Taste: 4.6 | Overall: 4.5
Fair Maiden Imperial IIPA (8.2% ABV) One of their classics, this ale is short on aroma, but makes up for it with a combination of hop/citrus flavors.
Appearance: 4.3 | Aroma: 4.4 | Feel: 4.4 | Taste: 4.4 | Overall: 4.4
Prospect Imperial IIPA (9.0% ABV) Excellent aromas and taste from the Galaxy and Citra hops, this double/imperial IPA, with a frothy head, delivers a real punch. One of the Foleys’ best.
Appearance: 4.7 | Aroma: 4.5 | Feel: 4.5 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.6
The Cicerone says: Stick with the Prospect Imperial IIPA if you can find it (and if you can handle it!).
