Coziest Tasting Room Ever! Red Barn Brewing

Red Barn Brewing

Maybe it was the wind-whipped snow pounding down, supposedly just flurries, but more like a blizzard. Maybe it was sluicing along an ice and snow-covered dirt road which was off another dirt road. Maybe it was the gaggle (?) of wild turkeys crossing the road (which my dogs quickly picked up on). All of those factors probably contributed to the exquisite feeling, as I ducked my head under an old wood beam, of entering the tiny, cozy tasting room of Red Barn Brewing.

Pete and Jeremy of Red Barn Brewing

The proprietors, Pete and Jeremy, were just opening up shop on this Saturday afternoon, and I was their first customer.  These guys are small-batch specialists … they had six beers on tap, and I ordered a flight of four, plus two single tastes so I could try each one.

No Quarter English Pale Ale (EPA) (6.5% ABV). Brewed with Centennial hops, this beer displayed a great amber color, and had a nice clean, not too bitter taste.
Appearance: 4.25 | Aroma: 4.0 | Feel: 4.0 | Taste: 4.0 | Overall: 4.1

Little Devil IPA (6.9% ABV). You can smell the Mosaic hops … sweet and bitter at the same time. Great drinking ale if you want to have more than just a pint.
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 5.0 | Feel: 4.5 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.7

Whiplash (5.2% ABV). A Bavarian wheat beer; definitely light-bodied and probably better to drink in the summer than the winter.
Appearance: 3.5 | Aroma: 3.5 | Feel: 3.8 | Taste: 3.8 | Overall: 3.7

Misty Hopped APA (6.7% ABV). Definite “misty” color generated by the Citra and Simcoe hops. Lots of great aromas and another good drinking APA.
Appearance: 4.0 | Aroma: 4.0 | Feel: 4.0 | Taste: 4.0 | Overall: 4.0

Black Dog Porter (6.8% ABV). Great dark color and strong chocolate and malty tastes. Very strong and carries a punch … good beer for this wintry day!
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 4.5 | Feel: 4.25 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.5

LOLA Double IPA (8.6% ABV). Wow … L-O-L-A Lola! Starting with the impressive orange color, LOLA explodes with hoppy flavor into your nostrils and onto your tongue. This DIPA is dry-hopped with Citra and Simcoe hops and you can smell/taste every ounce. This is an awesome beer.
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 5.0 | Feel: 4.25 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.8

The Cicerone says: Red Barn Brewing has a great vibe and is worth a visit. In Spring, Summer and Fall, they open up the old barn in back (red, of course) and host live music and food trucks. Oh yeah, if LOLA is around, go for it!
