When you hit the junction of Interstates 91 and 89 in White River, Vermont, consider taking a break and popping in to River Roost Brewery. On my way to Stowe, I did just that.
Nestled down by the Connecticut River and surrounded by BBQ joints, this micro-brewer just celebrated 2 years in business. I pushed up to the small tasting bar and tried out three of their offerings: Washed, Unfallen, and Big Smooth.
Washed (5.8% ABV). Brewed with Mosaic and Motueka hops, this pale ale goes down smooth … it’s a good day-drinking beer.

Unfallen (11.2% ABV). This is a chocolate stout with a spicy zing to it. Strong chocolate flavors. If you like Stouts, you will like Unfallen.
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 4.0 | Feel: 4.5 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.25
Big Smooth (8.2% ABV). Prepared for River Roost’s 2nd anniversary, this double IPA, with Citra and Galaxy hops displays an appetizing hazy, yellow-orange glow. It’s a wonderful creation, and I took a 32 oz. growler to enjoy for the weekend.

The Cicerone says: Big Smooth comes as advertised. There are no cans and bottles available, so bring your growlers and load up!
