End Your Day of Shopping at Farnham Ale & Lager

My party ended a day of shopping in Burlington by stopping by the Farnham Ale & Lager brewery in South Burlington (although it seemed due east of where we were … whatever). Situated in an industrial/commercial zone, this branch of Farnham is pretty spacious … with ample room for the tasting area as well as the brewing and warehouse operations.

Farnham started up in 2013 in the “heart of Monteregie”, Quebec just outside of Montreal. Quickly set upon by lovers of Molson and Labatt, they looked for locations down south where independent Vermonters were free to drink the craft brews they concocted.

While a friendly old mutt muddled around the bar, our party initiated the tastings that Farnham had to offer.

The Tastes at Farnham Ale and Lager in South Burlington, Vermont

#52 Double IPA (8.5% ABV). Orange-yellow color with a nice foamy head. Great citrus aromas, but taste didn’t live up to the first impressions.
Appearance: 4.5 | Aroma: 5.0 | Feel: 4.0 | Taste: 4.0 | Overall: 4.0

#71 New England IPA (7.1% ABV). Classic IPA look, decent hoppy aroma, and finished great on the tongue. I good drink a few of these.
Appearance: 4.0 | Aroma: 4.0 | Feel: 5.0 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.5

#BA Chocolate Imperial Stout (13% ABV). As its name implies, this is a strong stout, great for the winter season, with strong caramel, coffee and chocolate overtones.
Appearance: 4.0 | Aroma: 4.5 | Feel: 4.0 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.25

#1 Passion Fruit Hibiscus Tart (5.0% ABV). Imbued with passion fruit juices and hibiscus, you can really taste these flavors erupting out of the beer. This is a good “sour” to sip on during the weekend.
Appearance: 4.0 | Aroma: 4.5 | Feel: 4.0 | Taste: 4.5 | Overall: 4.25

The Cicerone says: If you do happen to travel to Montreal, sneak by the locals and stop in to the original Farnham Ale & Lager in Farnham, Quebec.
